Should You No-Follow The Comments on Your
Blog?
There is a great debate happening at the moment on the seo
forums with regards to-no follow and whether the webmasters of
popular blogs should use it on their sites.
As you can imagine there are a number of different opinions and
the chatter has become quite heated on more than one occasion. One
forum member was even accused of working for Google! In this
article I will be writing about the stance that I think webmasters
should be taking.
For those who are not aware, no-follow is something that Google
introduced as a way of stopping a link on a website from passing
what they call page rank juice. This has provoked fury amongst many
in the search industry including many so called SEO experts.
Google have been attempting to eradicate all of the paid links and
have hammered some of the major players.
Quality sites have had the page rank of their site penalised as
they would not adhere to the new rules, for example seroundtable,
which is one my favourite sites on the internet, has had its pr
reduced from a pr7 to a pr4, just because they would not add
no-follow onto the links on their page.
Blog comments are not paid of course but do still pass page rank,
unless the no-follow is added. This could in the future lead to
further penalties and for this reason I would advise blog
owners to use no-follow.
There is also the spam connection; you are likely to receive a lot
less spam if you do no-follow the links.
